Limit hold 'em: 4/8, 4/8 with a full kill, 8/16?, possibly 10/20?
They were only spreading 4/8 full kill when I was there on a Sunday evening, and only one table of it. I don't know if they spread other limits, or when, but the brush board had columns labelled 8/16 and 10/20.
The 8/16 spreads often enough (3-5 times a week, in the evening), but I have never seen the 10/20 go (though some have told me it has). Jay
Game Info
The rake is $4 per hand. The rake is taken from the pot after the flop.
Posting: New players need not post.
Shuffling: Shufflemaster machines are standard on all tables.
Wait Time
Depends greatly on number of tables in use; on Sunday night when I went in at around 8pm, there was a wait list of three people for the lone running 4/8 game, but 10 minutes later I was in a seat (the earlier two names did not respond when called).
Tournaments
None, though apparently once every few months they have a special tournament. Nothing regular.
Jackpots
* Gold Bad Beat Jackpot: Quad 8's or better beaten = $100,000 (Feb 06)
* Silver Bad Beat Jackpot: AAAKK or better beaten by quads or better, $12000 (Feb 06).
* Royal Flush Bonus: progressive by suit. All suits were around $300 each in Feb 06.
* High hand for each day wins $100. (High hand is 3 times a day - Jay)
Atmosphere
This is one of the scariest card rooms I've ever entered. The exterior looks somewhat normal, if plain, but the interior almost had me running out the door before I'd signed up. A tiny (2-table) bar is the main entrance, with a sullen-looking bartender who watches you as you walk through to the card room in back. There was one person at the bar, and a TV quietly playing some sports show in the corner. Dark, ill-lit, and smelled weird.
The card room itself was even worse. A large room with high flat ceilings, plain concrete walls painted a drab offwhite with that kind of thick paint you see in school cafeterias. Wan fluorescent lights make everything look like you're in a prison ward. Broken and stained furniture is scattered around the room. It could hold 8 poker tables easily, but they only have four in there. The place smells vaguely of a weak Mr. Clean mixture and makes you think they tried to clean up some spills and only partially succeeded. It reminded me of a bad porn store.
The employees looked generally unhappy to be there, and the crowd around the one active poker table seemed desperate. I guess they'd have to be, to play in a place like this when there's two other casinos in town much much better than this. Maybe they're desperate to play 8/16, which I hadn't seen elsewhere in town (though the Capitol Casino offers a 9/18 game, which is often quite full). But this night they were playing 4/8 with a full kill.
They actually have a table of Pai Gow, as well. There were people playing there, but it was too scary for me to go over and watch.
Neighborhood: A fairly commercial area on a business street, the Silver Fox is surrounded by used car lots and other slightly-less-desireable businesses. That's why they're so far out of downtown. |
